INTRODUCTION
The Laser Mouse is both a
full-function mouse and a presentation remote:
Basically the Laser Mouse is a long range (40-50 feet) wireless mouse
that was designed specifically to run PowerPoint presentations.
Just look at the wonderful ergonomic design. It feels comfortable
whether you have large or small hands. It has a convenient
"Slide Advance" that
lets you quickly navigate through your slide show both forward and
reverse. The Laser Mouse is just as important as your LCD
projector in providing a professional computer presentation.

RF Technology
The abbreviation "RF" stands for Radio Frequency,
which means the Penta Laser Mouse uses radio frequency technology as
opposed to infrared technology. The advantage is that you don't have to
point the Penta Laser Mouse at the receiver. The signal travels around desks, monitors,
partitions, and other obstacles. It even goes through walls!
Long Range (40-50 feet)
The long range allows you to walk around the room with freedom! Some
customers report a range even beyond 50 feet.
The Laser Mouse is so powerful that schools with adjacent classrooms
have to set their Laser Mice on different channels or else they will
interfere with each other. Note:
The Laser Mouse has 64 different channels.
Built-In Laser Pointer
The
built-in laser pointer adds a powerful dimension to your computer
presentations. You can point to charts and graphs both on and off
the computer display. Note: The Laser Mouse has a built-in safety feature for the
Laser. The Laser will not fire unless you first place it into
"Laser Mode".
IMPORTANT
NOTE:
Before you get frustrated with the "Mouse"
performance of the Laser Mouse, first check the speed of your mouse.
It might be set too slow or too fast. The properties of the Laser Mouse are controlled by
the regular "Mouse" properties found in the
Windows "Control Panel". To get to
Control Panel, click on the "Start Menu"
and select "Settings" and then select
"Control Panel". There you will see
an Icon of a computer mouse. Double click on the Mouse Icon and a
window will pop up displaying the mouse properties. There you can
adjust the speed of the cursor. Speed it up or slow it down
according to what works best for you.

Here is where you select the mouse speed for your
Laser Mouse
Slim and
Compact
Both the
Laser Mouse and the Receiver are slim and compact. You can easily
pack them along with your laptop computer. It even comes with a
built-in pocket clip and easily fits inside a shirt pocket. And now
the Laser Mouse comes with a free carrying case that you can pack or
clip to your laptop carrying case.
The Button
Bar
Shaped like
a "Bow Tie", the left and right mouse buttons are built into a
single button bar. This ingenious design allows you to find the
button bar even under dim lighting conditions.
Important Note: You can use the
"Left" mouse button to advance your slides. However, please note
that it is not when you press the "Left" mouse button that advances the
slide, but rather it's when you release the "Left" mouse button that
advances the slide. It is a two step process:
1. Press the "Left" mouse button (the
slide gets ready to advance) 2.
Now release the "Left" mouse button (the slide will advance to the next
slide).

Slim ergonomic design makes it feel natural in your
hand
How does the Laser
Mouse talk to the computer ?
That's a good question. The Penta Laser Mouse communicates to your
computer via a device called the RF Wireless Receiver or "Receiver" for
short. About the size of a pack of gum,
this little piece of equipment plugs into any available USB port on
your computer. The reset button is used to get the Laser Mouse
and the Receiver talking to each other. You shouldn't have to
reset the receiver unless the Laser Mouse stops functioning or when
you want to change channels.
64 Different Channels
Just
like cable television, the more channels the better! The Laser Mouse
operates on 64 different digital channels. This allows you to run
several Laser Mice in close proximity without interference. See
online Instruction Manual for more details.
USB
Compatible
On the end of the Penta Laser Mouse receiver you will find a
standard USB compatible jack/connector. Therefore, you can plug it into
any available port on your desktop or laptop computer. The computer must
have an operating system that supports USB. For example: Windows NT does
not support USB.

The
Big Rubber Navigation Disk
The Navigation Disk is that big rubber circular thing
in the middle of the Penta Laser Mouse. Basically, the Navigation disk
performs all the mouse functions for the Laser Mouse. When you press the
Navigation Disk the cursor on the computer screen should move. It is
similar in function to the "Eraser Head" found on some laptop computers.
The advantage of the Navigation Disk is that it's uses digital
technology verses analog technology to perform the mouse functions.
Therefore, it's like a digital trackball. The advantage is that it never
gets dirty and therefore never needs cleaning unlike analog trackballs
that require regular cleaning and maintenance.

Navigation disk allows you to move the arrow on the
screen
What is the Slide Advance?
The "Slide Advance" button lets you go forward or reverse through
your PowerPoint® presentation. It also doubles as a scroll button
when using other computer programs like web pages, email, documents,
spreadsheets, etc.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you press in on the "Slide Advance" it will act like the "Left Mouse
Button". Also if you slide up or down and you hold the slide wheel
up or down, it will keep advancing your slides. Therefore, you
need to slide the wheel up or down and then release it. The slide
wheel has a built-in spring that automatically brings it back to center.

What is Media Mode?
You probably
noticed the new markings on the Laser Mouse.
What do these markings mean? Every
symbol on the Laser Mouse is for one of the new multimedia functions.
For example the "Power On/Off" starts the default media application.
The Up/Down arrow above and below the Navigation disk is to move from
track to track on your media program. The Play/Pause symbol on the
Mouse Button Bar is to Play and Pause your music tracks. The
Multimedia functions work with most media applications like Windows
Media Player and the popular iTunes software.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
There
are two basic modes of operation: MOUSE MODE
(default) and MEDIA MODE (flashing green light). When you
press the Illuminated Function key once, it will light up green (and
continue to flash green) and will place the Laser Mouse in "Media Mode".
While in Media Mode the Navigation Disk will not move your mouse on the
screen. To exit "Media Mode", simply press the Function Key once
more and it will go back into "Mouse Mode".

How to tell if the Laser Mouse is in “Media
Mode” ?
Stare at the triangular button for about 10 seconds. If it flashes green
about every 3 seconds then the Laser Mouse is in “Media Mode”.
MEDIA MODE ON
Press the triangular button once and it will light up and stay lit for
about 5 seconds. Then it will continue to flash about every 3 seconds to
indicate the Laser Mouse is in “Media Mode”.
MEDIA MODE OFF
Press the triangular button once and it will light as you
press it but it will stop being lit as soon as you release the button.

Mouse comes with a long lasting lithium battery. When you order a
